The Compelling Chaos of Slushy Noobz

The Compelling Chaos of Slushy Noobz

Technically, this wasn't the plan. Canadian content creators Hamzah Al-Emad and Martin Andrijasevic were supposed to just be an online gamer duo — broadcasting their ascension through various backrooms to guys who shared their passion. But even they couldn't imagine how their natural chemistry, odd-ball humor and penchant for shenanigans would connect with a wider audience. In the end, Slushy Noobz got much more than they bargained for.

It all began with a DM. Martin was posting sketches on TikTok during the pandemic, and Hamzah, a fan of his work, reached out. Soon after, Martin traveled to Toronto for an EDM festival and crashed at Hamzah's place — the spark that launched their long-term friendship and collaboration. ChatGPT is responsible for their name (the prompt was  ‘make a name for a gaming channel involving the meme “wocky slush”'), and Slushy Noobz was born.

"Gaming will always be part of something we’d always do because, us ourselves, we love to play games," Hamzah told Wonderland. "It’s very natural to us. At the end of the day, our channel reflects what we want to organically do at the time. So if we want to take advantage of our ability to go out and do stuff and feel more adventurous, then it would just reflect on the channel."

While their content has always been anchored in streaming games like Roblox and Minecraft, their style lands somewhere between contemporary YouTube comedy and an evolution of their Canadian forefather, VICE. It's full immersion, Gonzo-esque journalism, filtered through a Gen Z TikTok brain and approximately six layers of irony. You’re never entirely sure where the bit stops and real life begins, which makes them incredibly compelling.

Naturally, the subscribers rolled in by the thousands, surpassing a million last spring.

"I think quitting my job was when I was like, ‘Wait, what?’ I’m living a dream where I don’t have to actually work the job that I didn’t like working," Martin explained. For Hamzah, the first time their success felt real was meeting fans in-person was the first time.

Now, they're meeting them in droves. The pair have embarked on their first nationwide tour of their native Canada — though, true to form, they're taking a less traditional route and eschewing big cities in favor of nine regional stops. This, they describe as an "Anthony Bourdain twist": the desire to be discovered in random towns where the locals would think, Why would they come here?

The tour, and its subsequent side-quests, has created some of their best content yet. To pull off six-hour long mobile livestreams from the middle of nowhere, they literally strapped a giant Starlink satellite dish to the roof of their car to ensure they always have an internet connection on the highway. They've crossdressed with a local can-can troop, attended rural rural rodeos and hopped onto actual lobster boat. And these boys really commit to the bit (they once trained eight months for a boxing match — allegedly).

"It’s just whatever we feel and whatever comes to mind," Martin shared Wonderland. "Recently we shot a parody of those bodycam police videos because Hamzah came across a video on his TikTok of kids playing around with a bodycam and we decided we wanted to do it too. You get inspired by random things on the internet, and it’s just whatever you want to do, because that’s ultimately what people are there for, to see what we are passionate about doing.

The two BFFs have been working on something very special with Wildflower, but the collaboration does not mark their first foray into design. This summer Slushy Noobz released a collection of merch inspired by vintage Canadian tourist apparel. (Our personal favorite is "Not Only Am I Cute But I'm Canadian, Too).

Basically, be prepared to see, and hear, a whole lot more Slushy Noobz. They recently announced a podcast, Out of Character, with Will Ferrell's Big Money Players Network. Basically, you can catch up with them even more regularly as they make their way across the country —recording their unhinged conversations entirely from the road while traveling between stops like Prince Edward Island. There will also be a video version of the show available on YouTube... the noobz never stop.

Tune into Slushy Noobz on YouTube to keep up with the boys in their purest form, or stay tuned for something very special with Wildflower, out sooner than you think.
