Finding Your Inner Flower Child

Beatrice Hazlehurst
Finding Your Inner Flower Child

When Lana Del Rey sang “Coachella, Woodstock in my mind” a siren went off for women everywhere. Boho, which reigned supreme with flared jeans in the early 70s, was resurrected by the disenfranchised youth in the early 90s in the form of floral maxi dresses, and returned with a vengeance in the early 2010s with layered pendants, was coming back again.

It was only a matter of time. Our update on Boho has been incoming since 2021: first, in the form of suede vests (always a litmus test for a Boho appetite) and now, with everything else. you could easily draw a line between this and the current socio-eco-political climate — obviously, there tends to be an uptick in all things undone in times of uncertainty — but I’m choosing to simply chalk this up to Vanessa Hudgens’ extended impact.

With Olivia Rodrigo is paying homage the iconic 90s all-female music festival Lilith Fair with Daisy Chains this month — which, as it happens, is in partnership with both Etsy and Depop to move FYRE stock — prepare for crochet galore. And look, you don’t have to join Greenpeace or backpack around Europe to pull all this off. Boho may be a lifestyle, but it only takes a few key essentials to nail the look. Below is everything you need to embrace your inner flower child without full 2013 Coachella cosplay (or maybe just a little).

Gladiator Sandals

Worn since the dawn of time (literally) gladiator sandals are a trend that has come and gone from, but I’ve never lost my love for them. In my humble opinion, the taller the better. Make it clear you know exactly what you’re doing — in this case, is serving Roman soldier realness. The pair above are, you guessed it, Free People.

The Peasant Top

ICYMI: Chloé is everywhere right now. The French fashion house who counts brands like Doên and Zimmerman among it’s daughters does a breezy blouse better than anyone, and this summer, that’s the name of the game. Thankfully, you don’t have to spend designer dollars to get the right style — they’re more common than you think.

This also goes for lacy babydoll dresses, which have trickled down from the runway into Target (
this one is right on the money).

The Tassel Bag

Ah yes, the festival staple. After years of mini shoulder bags, we’re going back crossbody and this time, we’re adding a little fringe. The tassel bag is the festival slowly filtering into real life, and thankfully, they’re easy to find secondhand. Yes, I threw a little barb FYRE’s way before, but resell sites have them in abundance and they really go the distance (please don’t buy the one I linked, I want it). If you want to update it a little more 2026, you can always go in the grommet direction.

Suede Booties

Oh, you think I was letting you off easy with a cutie little cowboy boot? Think again. We’re continuing the tassel trend with a surprisingly flattering flat ankle boots guaranteed to resurrect the spirit of Ms. Hudgens herself every time you slip them on. (Pretty sure when she wrote the lyric “put your sneakers on” these are what she really meant).

The Flower Crown

You’ve worn it, I’ve worn it, we’ve all been crownies at one point. And that’s special. Now, the flower crown is destined for a new life. I’d advise steering away from Lana Del Rey-core due in case of any lingering flower crown PTSD, and keep it delicate and fern-free with a hint of baby’s breath. Also if you’re thinking of heading to Amazon, be warned, they likely won’t hold up (speaking from experience) — where are the farmer’s market artisans at?

The Racerback Tank

People have been reporting the return of racerback tank all summer — a wardrobe essential which has finally eclipsed the shoestring singlet and Hanes ribbed vest in popularity. Honestly, it’s about time the girls got out the lats. Also, the looser and lower, the better. Seriously, side bra or nothing.

The Statement Pendant

In 2012, there was the infamous owl necklace, in 2026 there’s these contraptions. Safe to say, we’re leveling up. If you’re a keep your jewelry-on-at-all-times kinda gal and this is all too much, I’d wade into the pendant pool with a little turquoise. This one is a steal. Also flagging that it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing this guy again — why? I own one.
