Milk Maids Take Manhattan with Sandy Liang

Just when it seemed Sandy Liang might finally lift her satin ballet mule from our throats and grant us a season free of yearning, she has delivered another iconic season, Spring Summer '26. Say it with me now, Thank you Sandy.

Debuting this month at NYFW, the designer's latest collection is very 'country girl goes to the city' — elevating classic work, evening and everyday-wear with her signature girlish whimsy. We're talking structured silhouettes, high-shine satins, lace accents that give grandma-gone-wild.

Staged at Buddakan, an ornate restaurant in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, the show favored bare-faced beauty and unfussy hair so as not to compete with Sandy's most couture-leaning collection yet. Where earlier seasons hinted, this one fully embraced with the avant-garde — buttons and bows blown out of proportion; gingham turned full tablecloth checks; and her signature flirty minis came trimmed with the tiniest of doll-sized dresses.

Of all the new, dramatic prints, the standout of the collection is a gift wrapping-inspired cartoon rabbit pattern. The "bunny" is a character that Sandy has been toying around with for some time, and this season, she reunited with Wildflower to reimagine it in phone case form. Shoutout to the girls intent on matching their phones to their outfit, this one's for you.

The print is peppered with Sandy Liang branding, and various mantras to remind you that you're a cutie-patootie. "I realized that nothing's changed. It remains fluffy," Reads one. "Happiness is taller than people," says another. Oh, and not to overload your dopamine receptors, but the bunnies also come in bag form.

For Sandy, the through-line is clear. Since her breakout in 2018, the designer has mined nostalgia, drawing directly from her upbringing between Flushing and Chinatown in New York City. So if this season feels especially familiar, that’s by design. Think Lizzie McGuire layering (yes, skirts over capris), bubble-hemmed minis fastened with jumbo buttons, and asymmetry galore. It’s pure Mary-Kate and Ashley circa their one-shoulder era.

Basically, it's everything you love about Sandy, with a twist. She's weeding out the sartorially shy—encouraging friends, family and fans to go big, or go straight back to the farm.
