Goodbye sexy mob wives and office siren sophistication, this season is all about girlhood — giving way to the rise of a trend from a key trend from our youth: butterflies.
When you think about it, it just makes sense. Butterflies have risen to the forefront of sartorial consciousness at a time trends have never felt more high-femme. Trad wives dominate social media, Zara Larsson has us on a permanent sugar high and Euphoria, which made waves for its exaggerated portrayal of high school girls, is back on the airwaves. As a result? Colored eyeshadow's comeback has made headlines this month, and we're seeing talk of rhinestones everywhere. It is only natural that this would propel butterflies into the stratosphere.
I know what you're thinking — haven't I outgrown flowers, stars, butterflies, and everything in between? Short answer: no. It doesn't matter how old you are, butterflies are for everyone, and every occasion. They come in particularly handy for those who need a little extra oomph for festival season, or even want to stand out from the crowd at any special event. In the eternal words of Crazy Town, You're my butterfly, sugar, baby.
The Earrings

I know, these are a splurge, but hear me out — graduation gift? Jennifer Behr does jewelry trends better than any other designer out there right now, and these bee-butterfly earrings are proof. Make everyone stop, stare and say, "Wait, where did you get those?" The best part? They have a butterfly back (no pun intended) so they won't stretch your ears quite as much as a shepherd hook earring. For a more cost effective option that still make a statement, try these from Revolve.
The Bikini

Come on now, every girl needs a butterfly bikini! While you can certainly find styles that take the trend very, very seriously (I'm talking one anatomically correct insect over each boob), this Niihai number does it right — a hint of sparkle, a cheekily-placed rhinestone, and a whole lot of whimsy.
The Dress

Let's hear a little commotion for this dress. Again, this Bronx and Banco situation is basically couture, honey. Covered in three-dimensional butterflies with a structured skirt that floats off the body and a cinched, corseted bodice, it's perfect to queue up for a special occasion. If you're looking for a cheaper, slightly more bohemian butterfly dress, both Jaded London and I AM G.I.A have taken on the trend, and look just as cute. (I own the Ellery from G.I.A, and can't recommend more).
The Jeans

Ever since Mariah Carey stepped out in her famous Emanuel Ungaro butterfly top with distressed jeans, the idea of combining butterflies and denim has remained top of mind. Well, why not do both, in one? Find yourself the perfect pair of jeans, and then the vest to match.
The Body

You've heard of face gems, how familiar are you with crystal body jewels? Believe me when I say this might be the biggest new trend in body accessories. When princess Zara showed off her row of butterfly tattoos applied to her spine by legendary makeup artist Sophie Sinot, the world stopped. We've been married to belly chains and body glitter for far too long, this is the new frontier.
The Face

We've made it to ~the face~. Just when you thought face paint at the local carnival was as far as you could take it butterfly cosplay, these ultra-delicate little guys came floating into the picture. Just imagine the selfie!?
The Case

Okay — had to. This is not our first butterfly case and won't be our last, but right now, it's definitely the one you need for spring.
